As any of my friends could tell you – and anyone who reads this blog will know – I love New York. I love it. I’ve loved it from the moment I spied the skyline from the Chinatown bus, nearly five years ago on a weekend away from Philadelphia. I learned to love it even more the summer I lived there: the bagels, the cocktails, the walks in Central Park. And now, with my other half located across the Hudson, I know New York better than any British city.
So what’s left to learn? Plenty, I’m willing to bet. I’ve already ticked off the tourist traps and more; now it’s time to tap into the knowledge of my fellow travellers, with the help of AFAR.
“AFAR is the multi-platform travel media brand that inspires and guides those who travel the world to connect with its people, experience their cultures, and understand their perspectives.” While I’m yet to read the print part of this collaborative multi-platform project, AFAR.com offers countless travel insights and inspiration. Think Facebook meets Pinterest for globetrotters and you’ve got the gist: the website is filled with the ‘highlights’ and ‘wanderlists’ of like-minded members across the globe, and provides plenty food for thought for your next trip.
With this in mind, I’m checking out what local experts and wanderers have to say about New York City and going in search of them myself. Who knows what else I might find along the way?
