It’s been nearly six months since I last left the country, and although I’ve been having plenty of fun in places closer to home, I’m eager for my next international adventure to begin.
Earlier this year, thanks to the thousands of votes cast by fans of the Hebrides, I came first in Holiday Hypermarket’s ‘Top Travel Blog’ competition. I was shocked and delighted, and then very excited about making use of the holiday vouchers that came as part of the prize.
After some confusion and complications over which holiday packages were actually available in conjunction with the vouchers, I settled on a destination: in four weeks, I’m flying to Kenya!
This holiday will herald a new country and new continent for me, not to mention a new type of travel – the all-inclusive package deal. We (my mum and I) will be staying at the Diani Sea Resort on the Kenyan coast, where the reef-filled waters of the Indian Ocean wash up against pearly white sands. It looks, quite frankly, like a slice of paradise.
Already I’m mentally listing what to see and do on my first African adventure, like wildlife spotting on safari and exploring the spice markets in Mombasa. But this trip will also feature a more traditional holiday activity too: relaxation! With world-class beaches and a never-ending supply of cocktails by the pool, some rest and relaxation in the sun is definitely in order.
With only a month to go, the countdown to Kenya is on!

Sounds fantastic – look forward to reading about how you get on. I’ve only been to North Africa so it’s a whole new bit of the world for me and I’d love to see some more.
I’ve never been anywhere in Africa, so I’m really excited about this trip 🙂 I’d love to visit Morocco too – your recent photos have only made me want to visit even more!
Oooh you’re going to love Kenya. Everyone is so friendly and the safaris are amazing! Make sure to buy lots of souvenirs in Mombasa, I went a bit over the top when I was there!
Thanks Virginia, I’m so excited! The safaris are definitely one of the things I’m looking forward to the most!
